2008 Ogunquit Fireworks Announcement

The Village Spirit Committee announced last night at the Business After Hours that the 2008 fireworks have been cancelled.  Unfortunately, after much marketing, they determined that they would not be able to raise the necessary funds.  They have assured us that they will be working on other plans for the July 4th week, such as concerts, etc, and I’m sure they will keep us informed.

I have always loved the Ogunquit fireworks display. It has always been a memorable experience and a highpoint of the summer season. I had assembled a group of friends to join me for it again this year but now that it’s been cancelled-guess who’s not coming to town.

I’ll be vacationing this weekend in Ogunquit from out of state and was really looking forward to seeing the Ogunquit fireworks on the beach that I’ve heard about from friends. I understand with our current economy that towns can not afford to do this and rely on donations. Maybe for next year you can campaign earlier and maybe from other new sources that might be able to help out.

You’re not the only town cancelling this year. I’m sure many of you worked hard in hopes for making this happen. Keep up the hard work, it’ll pay off next year. Thank you for trying.

Ogunquit has lost its Norman Rockewell charm. I suppose
we can only expect a Starbucks and cellphone towers to appear next. Shame on you for taking away one of the last great small town experiances.

I too am extremely upset about Ogunquit not having fireworks this year. My favorite childhood memory has always been sitting on the rocks by marginal way every summer and getting to watch the amazing fireworks display they put on year after year. Unfortunately as I grew older I wasn’t able to vacation up there anymore and haven’t been for a number of years now. This past year I was finally able to save some money and plan a vacation. I was really looking forward to experiencing once again my favorite childhood memory along with getting to share this special memory with my daughter. and now, well.. I am so disappointed that I’m not sure if I want to take the vacation at all.

You can charge $4.00 per hour to park at your beach parking lot but can’t provide fireworks on our nations birthday? What’s wrong with this picture?

I am so disappointed. I made last minute plans to come to your town for the very first time ever, and made non-refundable reservations only to find this out 4 days before my vacation from SW Florida!

July 4th in a small town that I never have been before, with NO fireworks? What a tragedy!

I am so disapponted!!! Why aren’t you having the fireworks?
It seems that you will be loosing alot of people that went
to the area just for the fireworks. What has happened to
to your town. It is so sad. It was a great event to have
and a nice one at that.

So very disappointed and may not come back next year

    Sirs or Maddam,

I am heartbroken to hear this grave news… I so love to visit your beautiful town and have many times been awed by your pyrotecnique displays. I shall still stay at the Old Village Inn on my visit as planned, however disheartened as I will be. Would you accept donations for a display? If so what would be the deadline? Do you plan to have ‘any’ displays this year at all? I should like very much to see one, once more in your town before the end of this season, unfortunately I don’t know that I’ll be able to make a visit next year. Please r.s.v.p

    Truly,
